The amended Fair Credit Reporting Act permits consumers to request a free copy of their credit report once every 12 months from each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion.) Free credit reports can be obtained on the phone by calling 1-877-322-8228, on the Internet www.annualcreditreport.com or by mail (complete the Annual Credit Report Request form found on the Internet) and mail to Annual Credit Report Request Service, PO Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. If the the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies are contacted individually, they will charge for a credit report.
