Kids In Distress

Provides a community-based, in-home services program targeting at-risk families that have been reported to the abuse registry or who come to the attention of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Broward County Schools, or other social services agencies as needing support. These families are in need of immediate services to reduce family dysfunction, child abuse, and prevent the removal of children from their homes. Accepts self-referrals from families who are having difficulty and are advocating for themselves.

Families referred must have three or more documented risk factors falling under the KID FIRST Eligibility Checklist. Risk factors include: Chronic Neglect, Physical Abuse, in which the child is not in imminent danger of being harmed, Family Violence, Parent-Child conflict, Financial Distress, Mental Health Problems, Alcohol or Substance Abuse problems, in which the caregiver is willing and able to participate in rehabilitative interventions.
